About the Project:
Kamba carvers in the Machakos area of Kenya hand carve wooden serving utensils from wild olive wood, mpingo, rosewood and jacaranda. In Kenya, deforestation has prompted more watchful management of forest resources. Among the Kamba, the entire tree is valued, so small items like sugar spoons and spreaders are designed to utilize as much scrap wood as possible.
