About the Project:
Kamba carvers in the Machakos area of Kenya hand carve wooden serving utensils from wild olive wood, mpingo, rosewood and jacaranda. Though wood carvers represent only a small percentage of Kenya's population, unregulated harvesting has depleted several native species during the past 100 years. Our Kenyan artisans, aware of the impact their trade can have on their environment, preserve Kenya's wood supply by using wood grown and harvested in a sustainable manner.
